The purpose of the trading posts is to ensure visibility of used/unwanted furniture and IT Equipment, firstly for use by other departments, and if no further use at UCT, then for sale to staff members. This also provides fairness in terms of access to view and purchase items.
The two trading posts work slightly differently:
The furniture trading post is for transfers and sales of used/unwanted furniture to departments or staff. The item description includes a note indicating whether the item is for departments only.
The IT trading post is only for sale of used/unwanted IT equipment to staff. Inter-departmental transfers are managed via the various IT lists prior to the remaining items being placed on the IT trading post.
