Call for 2019 TB Davie Memorial Lecture nominations

The Academic Freedom Committee invites staff and students to submit nominations for the 2019 TB Davie Memorial Lecture.

The lecture was established by UCT students to commemorate the work of Thomas Benjamin Davie, who was Vice-Chancellor from 1948 to 1955 and a defender of the principles of academic freedom. Previous speakers include Noam Chomsky (1997), Kader Asmal (2002) and Max du Preez (2014). See a list of previous speakers...

The deadline for nominations is Saturday, 28 April 2018. Nominations should:

  • not exceed three pages
  • include a brief curriculum vitae of the nominated speaker
  • include a motivation for the nomination.

Nominations should be submitted to Dee Benjamin at denise.benjamin@uct.ac.za or posted to Room 141, Bremner Building, Lower Campus. Further details will be circulated in due course.
